Will Ron’s offensive production go up this season?

Last year was Laker small forward Ron Artest’s first year on the Lakers, and his first year running the triangle offense. It is a very tough offense, and it took Ron a while to pick up on it. He seemed like he was firing away many threes and missing most of them.

This year Ron Artest knows the offense a lot better, and I think he will be a lot more comfortable from possession to possession. He has shown he can hit the three at times, but what the Lakers should a probably will do is post up Ron so he can use his strength to get easy buckets. A more comfortable Artest makes a more productive Laker team. Oh yeah, and Ron should still be the lock up defender he his, all year long, just ask Kevin Durant.

Lakers begin training camp Saturday

The road to 3-peat begins saturday, as the Lakers open up training camp. Its been a good offseason, but it’s time to get back to work. Andrew Bynum has not fully recovered from his knee surgery, and is expected to miss the pre-season, and probably won’t be ready for opening day. That means Lamar will have to step up early, and guys like Theo Ratliff and Derrick Caracter will see some action. The Lakers will travel to Europe to play two pre-season games, so they will begin the pre-season earlier than most teams. Here is the Lakers training camp roster and pre-season schedule:
15 Ron Artest
9 Matt Barnes
5 Steve Blake
12 Shannon Brown
24 Kobe Bryant
17 Andrew Bynum

41 Drew Naymick

Packers improve to 2-0

The Packers handled there business on sunday vs. the Bills. This was a game the Packers were supposed to win, and in the second quarter I was not so sure they would. After a fast start in the first where the Packers settled for two field goals and one td. The Bills offense could not get going and finished the quarter with 0 yards. But in the second quarter the Bills dominated. The Packers offense was not playing well and the Bills scored a touchdown. At half the score was 13-7 Packers. In the second half the Packers dominated the Bills on every level, and the game finished 34-7.
The Packers didn’t play well in the first half but in the second half they played great. Clay Matthews got 3 more sacks and is now on pace for 48 on the season. That is very unrealistic, but with the way Clay is playing I wouldn’t be surprised to see him hit 20 by the end of the season. The Packers will play the Bears next week on Monday Night Football in Chicago. Chicago is 2-0 like the Packers, so the winner will take the NFC North lead.

Packers Beat Eagles, Improve to 1-0

The Packers kicked off the 2010 season today with a rough win in Philly against the Eagles. I say rough because it was a hard fought win in tough conditions. Also the Packers offense looked sloppy and so did Aaron Rodgers who threw two interceptions. Rodgers first pick was a very bad decision. He tried to force it into Jermichaell Finley who was being double covered. The ball was tipped into the air and eventually picked off. His second pick, was probably due to the wet ball. It started to rain half way through the second quarter and the balls became slippery. It affected Rodgers on a third down when he had Donald Driver open, but threw it way over his head for the pick. Besides that the offense played ok, putting up 27 points. Starting running back Ryan Grant had a tough start, but in the second quarter he started to pick it up. After he reeled off a 18 yard run, Ryan got tackled by his ankle and he came up hobbling. He hopped into the locker room on one foot and would not return.
The Packers defense played pretty well. They got pressure on Kevin Kolb early and forced him into bad throws. On one play Clay Matthews (who finished with two sacks and a forced fumble) got to Kolb and threw him to the ground hard. Kolb looked to be shaken up and came off the field. It turns out Kevin had a concussion and did not play in the second half. Michael Vick came into the game and looked like his old self when he played with the Falcons. Vick was running well and throwing well and brought the Eagles back within 7 points but could not put together a game tying drive late in the fourth. All in all the Packers didn’t look great, but it is tough winning on the road in this league especially in Philadelphia. Look for the Aaron Rodgers and co. to play a lot better next week in their home opener against the Bills.

Al Harris and Atari Bigby on PUP list.

The Green Bay Packers placed cornerback Al harris and safety Atari Bigby on the physically unable to perform list today. This means that they can not practice with the team until they are off the PUP list which can not happen for six weeks. Al and Atari are a big part of their secondary and will be missed. But the Packers have to move on, and trust that their other players can get the job done. This opens the door for rookies CB Sam Shields and safety Morgan Burnett. Morgan will start at safety and will be relied on to make plays and Sam Shields will be the starting nickel. Shields didn’t expect to be starting week one but it will probably happen. If they don’t produce, the Packers defense is going to have to relay on their offense to stay in the game. Look for some high scoring affairs in the first half of the season.
