Maurkice Pouncey out for Super Bowl

Steelers rookie center Maurkice Pounecy suffered an ankle injury in the AFC Championship against the Ravens, and it looks like it will be holding him out for the Super Bowl. After Pouncey failed to participate in practice on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, head coach Mike Tomlin ruled Maurkice out. What does this mean for the Packers? B.J Raji will now have a favorable match up against backup Doug Legursky, and with B.J’s tremendous ability to get to the quarterback, he should command a double team. The double team should free up the outside for guys like Clay Matthews and Cullen Jenkins. The Packers will be able to get to Ben Roethlisberger, but its a matter of bringing him down once they get to him. He is a big man and hard to bring down, and he a great ability to scramble out of the pocket and make a play. The Packers are only four quarters away from brining the Lombardi trophy home, and by getting to Big Ben it will make it that much easier.

Packers Season Ahead

On sunday the Packers will face the Falcons in the Georgia Dome, were the Falcons have only lost 3 of their last 21 games there. It will be interesting to see how the Packers play against one of the best teams in the league. Not only that, the Falcons hold the best record in the NFC (8-2), but the Packers are only one game behind. With a win on Sunday the Packers could be sitting at the top of the NFC. The top seed is very important for the playoffs. You get home field throughout the rounds, and you get a bye in the first round. This is something all Packer players want and are trying hard to get, with all of the injuries they are dealing with right now. The more rest, the better for this injury riddled team.

But lets not get ahead of our selves here. The Packers are still in a close battle for their own division, let alone the entire NFC. They are tied with the Bears, and won’t see them again until the last week of the season. It seems like every one is thinking when are the Bears going to go away. No one, including me, thinks they are as good as the record, but as long as they keep winning games, they won’t go away. It is important for the Pack not to overlook the Bears, and think they will automatically win their division. This race will be a close one and should come down to the end of the season.

Al Harris Released

Cornerback Al harris tore his ACL last season, and it cost him his job with Packers. With Harris out last season Tramon Williams played very well, and carried it into things season. Also nickel corner Sam Shields has played great in his starts this season. He made a great catch on a jump ball to Miles Austin last night, and you will be seeing a lot more of Sam this season, with Al’s release.

Packers welcome back Atari Bigby

Finally, after missing the first eight games of the season, Packer safety Atari Bigby was activated of the PUP list saturday. Atari should help the Packers secondary very much, even though his back up Charlie Peprah has been playing very well. Peprah was flying around the field making plays in his four starts this season. He is a young talent, that should provide a great backup for Bigby when he needs a breather. There is no guarantee that Atari will play, but the news of him being activated means he will probably suite up for the game. My guess is he will be out there, making big hits, and big plahs like he did last season.

Corner back Al harris on the other hand was not activated of the list, so he will not be available for tomorrows game. This news is understandable, Tramon Williams has played very well in place for him, and Al’s injury was much more severe than Atari’s. Al will also get next week off, because of the Packers bye week so he should come back in great shape for the Packers matchup at Minnesota in week 11. Although the Packers injury situation is very bad, they come back after the bye week getting many players healthy for the stretch run of the 2010 season.
